POSTVERTA

POSTVERTA
POSTVERTA
Dea apud Romanos, una ex Carmentibus, quae partui feminarum praesidebat. Vide Gell. l. 16. c. 16. De ea sic Varro apud Gellium, loc. cit. ubi postquam de fetu dixerat, capite infimô nixum, sursum pedibus elatis esse, pergit: Quando igitur contra naturam forte conversi in pedes, brachiis plerumque diductis retineri solent aegriusque tunc mulieres enituntur; Huius periculi deprecandi gratiâ arae statutae sunt Romae duabus Carmentibus, quorum una Postverta nominata est, Prosa altera, a recti perversique partus potestate ac nomine. Ubi quam Prosam vocat, alii Porrimam, item Antevortam dicunt. Mentio Postvertae in lapide vet. apud Lingones reperto, sub capite Mercurii et mulieris: Deo Mercurio. et. Postverte. C. Antius. Titi. filius. ex voto, apud Gruterum Inscript. p. 50. Et forte eundem lapidem exhibet Petavius in veter. Nummorum Gnorism. ubi incuriâ sculptorum, pro Postverte irrepsit Rosmerte. Aliô tamen sensu atque Varro, scribit Ovidius in Fastis, l. 1. v. 633
Porrima placantur, Postvertaque, sive sorores,
Sive fugae comites, Maenali diva, tuae.
Altera, quod porro fuerat, cecinisse putatur,
Altera venturum postmedo quidquid erat.
Sic Macrobius, Saturnal. l. 1. c. 7. ubi de Iano, Qui etc praeterita, ait, nôsset et futura prospiceret, sicut Antevorta et Postverta, divinitatis scil. aptissimae comites, apud Roman. coluntur, Iac. Oiselius Notis in Gell. l. cit. Vide quoque Ioh. Rosin. Antiqq. rom. l. 2. c. 19. et Thom. Bartholin. de Puerperio Veterum.
